What Have You Done for Her Lately?
By Amy Ziff, Editor-at-Large

April 28, 2003

Once a year it's all about her--your mother, that is. May always means Mother's Day, and if you are looking for the perfect way to thank Mom for all she does for you and for the whole family, I have just the thing.

A bouquet of flowers? Too cliche. A thriving house plant? Just another thing to take care of. A nice card? If that's the best you can do--but after all these years it may be time for more. I'm thinking this year, it's time for payback on a much grander scale. Give Mom what she probably wants and needs more than anything--a break. And not just an ordinary break, but a relaxing spa getaway.

A trip to the spa is an easy gift. You can send her away to a "destination" spa for the weekend, or you can find one not far from home. Many hotels now offer spa services, so there may be an opportunity just around the corner or in the nearest city.

Come on, after all the dishes she's washed, the laundry she's done, the countless carpools, the limitless listening, the warm hugs--you know she's worth it.

The following list includes some of Travelocity's biggest and best-selling spas from around the country:

  • Chateau Elan Winery and Resort - Braselton, Georgia
  • The Belagio Hotel - Las Vegas, Nevada
  • Atlantis - Paradise Island, Bahamas
  • Wyndham Peaks Resort and Golden Door Spa - Telluride, Colorado
  • Vail Cascade Resort - Vail, Colorado
  • Pueblo Bonito Rose - Los Cabos, Mexico
  • Aventura Spa Palace - Cancun, Mexico
  • Famirmont Kea Lani Maui - Maui, Hawaii
  • Hyatt Regency Minneapolis - Minneapolis, Minnesota
  • Sheraton Portland - Portland, Oregon
  • Sanibel Harbor Resort and Spa - Sanibel, Florida
  • Don Ceasar Beach Resort and Spa – Saint Pete Beach, Florida

Of course the downside to sending Mom away to the spa is she might get lonely on her own. If that worries you, you may just have to bite the bullet and go with her. Then again, that might not be so bad either.

Happy Mother's Day!
